HUNTERS OF THE NIGHT

Chapter 3 – Meeting

Five days later Gabrielle walked past a sign that said: Welcome to Transylvania, beware of vampires. She stood there at the sign for a few minutes. Doesn’t look like this place is too friendly. Maybe people will ignore me then. She started walking and remembered the past few days. After she had left her uncle’s mansion she followed the read that lead out of the town. Luckily she hung on to her gad in the escape. She would camp in the woods at night and walk the day. Seeing new things had enlightened her mood. Sometimes though, she would get scared in the dark. When she came upon a town she noticed that everyone dressed in dark clothes and none looked nice. Obviously something bad has happened here. The thought sent shivers down her spine and she left the town in a hurry.

Up the read Gabrielle saw someone on a horse approaching. It resembled the figure of a man. She chose to ignore him and keep walking. When he was about to pass her he reined his horse to a stop. Gabrielle looked up at him. His horse was a magnificent black stallion and the man was young. He had brown hair and lovely green eyes. She guessed that he was about half a foot taller than her. He had a nice figure but the main feature was his face. Gabrielle couldn’t get over how handsome he was.

“Now what would a lovely lady be doing walking the roads of Transylvania? You must be new here for I’ve never seen you face before.” the stranger said.

“Now Sir, why would I give you information when I don't even know who you are?”

He smiled. It was a lovely smile. “Careful aren’t you? My name is Darien Wane VonDrake and I am a resident here. My mansion is up the road a ways.”

“Mansion? From the town I just past I got the impression that none were wealthy.”

“That’s because it’s a small village. The large town is a little bit up the read. Now that I’ve told you who I am, why don’t you tell me who you are?”

“Wouldn’t the larger town help a small village in need?”

“I have no control over what goes on and you are trying to change the subject.”

I cocked my eyebrows. “What if I don’t want to tell you my name? In fact I think I’ll be going now.”

She started to walk up the read but she stopped. More like she was stopped. Darian pulled his horse in front of her so his right side was in front of her.

“Is it really so bad to tell somebody your name?” he asked.

“Sometimes it is,” she countered.

“What do you have to be afraid of?”

“Nothing.”

“Then tell me it. All of it.”

“Why are you so interested in my name?”

“So if we meet again I shall be able to call upon you.”

Gabrielle sighed. “If it will satisfy your curiosity and pay the cost of letting me continue then I shall give it. Gabrielle Anne Stanley.”

“Now was that so hard?” he said sarcastically.

“Must you provoke me?”

“I would not do such a thing. Until we meet again.”

He rode off toward the small town and Gabrielle walked in the opposite direction.
