VAN HELSING 2: THE DEMON'S RISING

"What are you?" Van Helsing asked the girl standing next to him.

The girl turned to him. "I need your help..." she said.

She seemed normal. Her hair was a soft brown color that fell past her shoulders. Her eyes were a soft blue.

But the chief characteristic was her long markings that ran all over her. They were blood-red and were in twists and turns.

She then extended her hand out to take Van Helsing's hand, but her eyes soon began to glow with rage. Her tattoos glowed and she began to tremble. She soon let out a scream and launched herself towards Van Helsing.

He had to defend himself. He knew how to kill this monster, but he found himself unable to. He tried to, but found no way move. The creature was now an inch away from him...

That was when he woke with a start. He felt sweat roll down his face, his hands shake, and how exhausted he was.

"What is it?" came a voice. It was only Carl, Van Helsing's loyal companion.

"It's nothing." he replied.

For the rest of the night Carl slept, but Van Helsing didn't.

When they arrived in Rome, Cardinal Jinette stood outside waiting. When the strange duo came into view, he rushed out to them.

"You must come with me! Quick!" he said, and dashed back inside.

Van Helsing dismounted and ran off after him. In moments they were below the Vatican. Jinette ran over to one of the massive tables that had a large black mass on it. Almost everyone stood crowding over it.

"It came without warning. It crawled inside, asking for you, Van Helsing. It had a wound on it. I couldn't say no." Jinette explained.

The figure stirred, and everyone took a few steps back, except for Van Helsing. He then noticed a glimpse of light around the figure's neck. He simply picked it up to see a small pendant. It was a small piece of wood that fit into his hand. On it was a word. It read "Gabriel" which made Van Helsing wonder.

He jumped when a hand reached up and grabbed his arm. The figure was awake! It rolled off the table and landed on its knees. It tried to run, but Van Helsing was running after it. He then fell to his feet, grabbing the stranger's legs as he fell, bringing it down too.

He crawled atop it and removed its hood. The face wasn't what he expected. The figure wasn't a man, but a woman, no more than twelve. She had brown hair that only touched her shoulders. Her eyes were a soft blue.

Van Helsing stood up, allowing the girl to move. "My apologies, I thought you were a man."

The girl didn't speak.

"I swear, I didn't mean to-" he was cut off by Cardinal Jinette.

"She would speak, but she can't." he said.

"Why not?"

"It's one of the only ways to tell she's not a human besides this." he grabbed the girl's arm and pulled up her sleeve.

Van Helsing's eyes went wide when he saw the red markings on her arm.

"Who are you?"

Jinette whispered something in the girl's ear. For a moment all was silent, but the child finally spoke.

"My name is Furie..." she said.
