VAN HELSING 2: THE DEMON'S RISING

"What kind of name is Furie?" asked Carl.

The girl turned to him with anger in her eyes. "One you give yourself when you don't remember your real one."

"You don't remember your name?"

Furie shook her head.

Cardinal Jinette smiled at her. "It's good to see you again, my friend."

Van Helsing stared in wonder. "You know each other?"

Furie nodded. "I saved his life once. I came here knowing he'd help me. I'm looking for a man named Van Helsing. I heard he might be around here. Do you know where I can find him?"

Everyone pointed toward Van Helsing.

"You?" Furie said in disgust.

"What were you expecting?"

"Not the person who pulled me down."

"I apologized! Shouldn't you forgive me?"

"I'll forgive you later." she said, her tone more serious now. "We have urgent things to speak of. Do you know how to get to castle Dracula?" she asked.

"Why do you need to know?"

"Because if I don't know, this world will fall into chaos. Is that good enough for you?"

"I don't know what you think you are to say that!" he snapped at her.

Furie remained silent for a moment. "I am an archdemon," she finally spoke. "I have been one for as long as I can remember, which isn't very long. I'm stronger than a regular demon, but there's a price to my strength besides being a creation of the Devil. I eat the hearts of mortals, which is worst than being bitten by a vampire. I was turned by two people who also erased my memory in the process: Amelia and William, the first true demons. They followed in the footsteps of their brother, Dracula, who instead became a vampire. Ever since their brother's death, they've been longing for revenge. They want his killer."

Van Helsing felt no fear with her words. "What are my options, Cardinal?" he asked.

Jinette considered this for a moment. "There are two options. One is to go into hiding for the rest of your life and let the world crumble. The other is to stand up against this threat and doing so may kill you."

The decision was made in less than an instant. "Get your things Carl! We're going back to Transylvania." Van Helsing said.

"That's great!" said Furie. "When do we leave?" she said, pulling up her hood.

Van Helsing turned to her. "You're not coming.Carl and I work alone."

"Well I don't see any reason why I can't come with you! Furie said.

"You're a child!"

"I know more about demons than you do!"

"You'll slow me down!"

"No I won't!"

The argument went on for a while until Jinette stopped them. "Van Helsing, take the girl. You'll need all the help you can get."

"How do I know if she won't make me her next meal?"

Furie rolled her eyes. "If I was planning that, it would be done already. I walked straight into the Vatican, knowing that I wouldn't be able to speak to find you! Doesn't that prove I can be trusted?"

Their conversation was stopped when a loud crash was heard from above. They ran upstairs to see two large creatures inside the church. They were pitch black with large wings, and had fangs that were massive, like their claws.

"Listen. I hear hearts inside. Many are frightened, but two of them have no fear. Do they not know what we are?"

Furie whispered to Van Helsing. "Those are demons, or at least a type of them. They were the ones that hurt me." with that she walked up to them with a cruel look on her face.

"I believe you were looking for me?" Furie said, withdrawing two large blades.

The demons turned to her. "What manner of human are you to stand up against us?"

"Who said I was a human?" she asked, and revealed her hand.

"You're not who we're supposed to be looking for, but our masters will be equally pleased with you." with that they charged for her. She dodged their blows with ease. As soon as there was an opportunity, she swung her swords, cutting a demon's wings. The demon grabbed Furie by her arm, dangling her in the air. She let out a loud, long whistle. Nothing happened to her or the demon, who began to laugh. In an instant Furie fell to the ground. While falling, she stabbed the demon's body, killing it. As it fell to the ground, so did she, and landed on her rump. As she landed Van Helsing rushed over to her.

"Are you alright?" he asked.

"I'm fine. Where did Shadow go?" As soon as she said that, a black wispy falcon that landed on her shoulder. It moved its head about, as though it was talking.

"Where'd you go?" Furie asked the bird. She turned to Van Helsing. "Oh, this is Shadow, my falcon. Shadow, this is Van Helsing, the man who's going to help us out. Did my stunt convince you to take us with you on your grand adventure?"

Van Helsing rolled his eyes. "Fine, come with us. You apparently have some talent."

Furie's eyes lit up with joy. Shadow appeared to be happy to hear this news too. Van Helsing then noticed the falcon was staring at him. It looked directly into his eyes, which made him turn away.

In moments, Van Helsing, Carl, and Furie rode out of the Vatican, ready for anything.
