VAN HELSING 3: SOUL HUNTERS

(Why do I keep doing this every chapter? I still don't and am pretty sure I never will own Van Helsing. Here's the new chapter. I hope its kinda funny with a bit of mystery tied in with it. Enjoy!)

Chapter 5:In the woods

Everyone seemed to be a little unnerved after the run-in with Gabriel's and Victoria's mother. Their attempts to remain strong were now a little less efficient than before. Still, it didn't stop them from sitting around by the fire and listening to some ghost stories from Carl.

Needless to say, his stories weren't very terrifying or entertaining. Victoria rolled her eyes halfway into a story. "I think I liked the last one you told better, and even that was horrible." she said.

Carl folded his arms across his chest. "Alright then, you come up with something." he said. Victoria seemed a bit shocked for a moment, then an idea popped in her head. A sly grin spread across her face. "Alright then." she said.

Her story was a lot more horrifying than the ones Carl told, but it wasn't scary to her at all. Gabriel rolled his eyes, he knew where she was going with this. Does she enjoy making the weak scream? he thought.

When her story was reaching an end, everyone except for him and Anna was huddled together, as far away from Victoria as possible.

"And there, on the wall, written in blood was the phrase, 'Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?'" she smiled wickedly, as though she did the deed herself. It was at that point when something happened that no one expected to happen. The campfire immediately went out!

Everyone let out a scream, and Carl fainted. No one stopped until Gabriel whistled loudly.

"Everyone, be quiet!" he shouted. "The campfire just went out. It's nothing to be scared of. Besides, you should be scared when the lights come on." he said, trying to make fun of Victoria's story.

Her turned to her and gave her a look. "You had to go ahead and scare them by making the fire go out, didn't you?" his voice was a low whisper.

Victoria raised her eyebrow. "Um, Gabriel...I didn't put the fire out." she said, a tone of fear in her voice.

It was at this point when everyone was now thoroughly spooked. "I'm going to go and get a match." Victoria said. She got up and went to her horses's saddle. After fumbling about for a minute in her saddle bag, she finally found what she was looking for. She struck a match as she got closer to the others. "You know, it's kind of funny, now that I think about it. You have to admit, I-" she stopped short, seeing everyone's face. Anna's hand was over her mouth to hold back a scream. Tom kept pointing out behind her, his hand trembling. Gabriel even seemed shocked, for his eyes were wide.

"What is it?" Victoria asked, for she sensed no danger. She then saw where everyone was looking.

Behind her. It was also then she felt a small gust of wind hit her back.

She gulped quietly and turned around. Her reaction now matched everyone else's. A large, black werewolf had itself planted right behind her. It growled lowly, showing its teeth. Victoria backed up slowly, her heart pounding in her chest.

Luckily for her, Gabriel snapped out of his trance and fired his revolvers, which contained silver bullets. If it hadn't been for him, she would've been the werewolf's dinner. The monster went down, a tad disappointed that it never got its next meal.

Unfortunately for Gabriel and the others, more werewolves came out. "You've got to be kidding me!" Victoria shouted, throwing her hands up in the air. "I was scared of these guys?" she said, annoyance in her voice. Werewolves to her were like

"Don't get them angry." Carl whimpered quietly. Gabriel ignored him. He needed his new gun. He muttered a curse under his breathe for leaving it in his bag, which was by the horses. No doubt they had been a midnight snack. Still, there was no use seeing if the gun was still intact. He broke off into a dash to the remains of the horses. He didn't need to search long to find it. He pulled the trigger, launching a stake into one of the attacking werewolves.

"Good shot!" Victoria said.

"I think you might need this!" Gabriel shouted. He threw her the flame-glove. which she caught with success. She slipped it on and launched a wave of fire at their attackers. They howled in pain when the flames hit them. It didn't take long for them to run off back into the trees.

Victoria placed her hands on her hips. "That wasn't so bad." she said. Her answer was a loud bang! A sphere of dark energy whirred past her head and hit a nearby tree. "Soul hunters!" she shouted. It was at that point one stepped out into view, giving them a view of one for the first time.

It was dressed all the way in black, which matched its eyes. It had different tones of skin in different places, as though human skin was taken from different people and placed on one body. Where a face should have been, there was nothing.

The monster fired again, this time with more success. Everyone's eyes widened as Tom fell with a yell of pain. What was more surprising was when a large light came flying from him, which was no doubt his soul. As soon as it was there, however, it vanished into darkness.

"TOM! NO!" Victoria shouted. She watched as the soul hunter grew with a bright light for a moment then it vanished. "Get him out of here!" she shouted to the others

Before the soul hunter could fire again, Gabriel threw one of his Tojo-blades with an almost inhuman-like grace. It lodged itself into the creature's neck, killing it. It fell to the ground, only to dissolve into oblivion.

As Gabriel bent down to pick up his weapon, he saw Victoria fly backwards in the air. He looked about, but there was nothing there to push her, or for the record that far! What was even more surprising was that she hung in midair, suspended above the ground. "GET ME DOWN FROM HERE!" she shouted. She struggled with the force that was holding her up, but it was to no avail.

It was at that point when a boy walked into view. He looked like Dracula at thirteen. "Who are you?" Gabriel shouted, afraid of what the answer might be. The boy ignored him. He walked straight up to Victoria. For a moment he seemed to be stuck in place. He then reached forward and tenderly stroked Victoria's cheek. She shuddered underneath him. His dark brown eyes bore into her blue eyes, which were beginning to fill with anger.

"Out of all that I have seen, I never thought I'd see your eyes again." the boy said. His voice was low, but it held a tone of shock.

"What?" was all Victoria could manage to say. The boy seemed surprised by her response.

"You don't remember me, Sabrina?" the boy asked.

Victoria raised an eyebrow. Who was Sabrina? Was she connected to this boy? Who was he anyway? The boy housed a look of intense longing inside, which bordered very close on the insane.

A noise came from the woods, causing the boy to drop Victoria and dash away.

"Who was that?" she asked as she hit the ground with a thud.

"A person who controls the soul hunters." came a voice. Everyone screamed at the voice.

"Whoa! Whoa! Calm down!" it said again. Everyone whirled to see a teenage boy behind the bushes.

"Are you Van Helsing?" he asked, pointing to Gabriel.

"Yes, and you are?"

"No one of importance. However, my master wants to see you. He has a cottage not far from here."

No one seemed sure what to do, so Victoria had an idea. "Let's take a vote. Who wants to stay in the werewolf and soul hunter infested woods?" No one raised their hand.

"Those who oppose and vote we go with the man who claims he has a master that wants to see us?"

It was a unanimous vote. They all followed the boy.
