VAN HELSING 3: SOUL HUNTERS
(disclaimers on pages 1-6) Chapter 11: The reason why you never give Victoria explosives. Gabriel steered the carriage as fast as it could. As long as they followed the map, and Merlin wasn't leading them into a trap, they should be alright. However, due to the lack of sunlight and a thick fog around them, seeing was nearly impossible. "Can't this thing go any faster?" Anna shouted from next to him. "I'm going as fast as I can!" Gabriel replied. Anna turned around and opened a door in the roof, revealing the others cramped together inside. "How are you doing in there?" she asked. Her response was a grunt from Victoria. Anna rolled her eyes and shut the door. It wasn't long until screeches could be heard from the sky. Gabriel looked up to see the two vampires chasing them. One cackled aloud and dove down towards them. Anna withdrew her sword an swung it fiercely, cutting one of the vampire's wings clean off. The monster immediately lost balance and fell to the ground. However, the second began to dive down after them. "Carl!" Gabriel cried out. It wasn't long until the friar's head popped out of the door. "Where's that gun that fires the stakes? We need it now!" Carl's eyes widened. "Oh, bother..." "Oh, no, you didn't leave it back at Merlin's, did you?" Victoria asked from inside the carriage. "Perhaps..." Carl answered nervously. "Oh, great! That's just great!" Victoria shouted. She folded her arms and slumped back in her seat, activating a hidden switch. The floor beneath them opened up, revealing a small hole, which held a barrel and two boxes. Isabelle took a box out and opened it. "If you don't mind my saying," she started as she opened the door to tell Gabriel and Anna what she found. "I have found a box of candles. A very big box of them." "Well, wait are you waiting for?" Gabriel said. "Light them up." he said. It didn't take long for one to be lit. It glowed more like a torch than a candle. "Wait kind of candle is that?" Anna asked. "The box says 'dynamite'." Isabelle said. Gabriel turned to her. "Lose the candle!" he yelled. He grabbed it from her hand and threw it. It wasn't long until a loud boom was heard from far behind them. "Alright, one box had dynamite in it. What's in the barrel?" Victoria said from inside the carriage. "Let's find out." Carl said. He carefully, only to have a black cloud fly about him. He coughed loudly. "Gunpowder?" Victoria wondered aloud. Why would anyone need gunpowder for a carriage? She opened the last box and her eyes widened. "This is weird." she said. She took one of the box's contents and opened the door in the roof. She cleared her throat loudly, gaining Gabriel and Anna's attention. "Whilst in a high speed chase against vampires, Merlin recommends absinthe for your drinking pleasures." she said. She took the cork in between her teeth, pulled it from the bottle, and spat it on the forest floor. Gabriel rolled his eyes and took the bottle from her hands. "You're too young." he said, and took a swig. "I'm not sure you should be drinking while your driving, either." Victoria returned. "Good point. Anna, would you care for some?" Gabriel offered. Anna took it from him, but instead of drinking it, flung it at the vampire. "It's a wicked waste, and I know it's not holy water, but I thought it might slow it down." she said with a shrug. Actually, it did slow it down. Shards of glass pierced its skin, and absinthe landed in its eyes, blinding it. It slowed down until it was no longer in sight. Victoria's mind soon hatched up a plan. Even though both vampires were down,it wouldn't be long until they came back. She also realized that all of the items they had found had one trait in common: They were all explosives. "Wait a second!" she said. The carriage stopped. Victoria quickly got the boxes and placed on the roof of the carriage, which she soon got on top of as well. She took the box of dynamite and emptied its contents on the ground. "Now! Go!" she shouted. She then grabbed the gunpowder and as they drove onward, a long black trail followed. When they powder ran out she opened a bottle of absinthe and poured it onto the forest floor. It wasn't long until the cracking of glass was heard, telling everyone that the bottles were now on the ground too. Victoria quickly lit a match and threw it to the ground. Everyone whirled around to see a long line of flames going in the opposite direction. As they rode onward, an ear shattering explosion was heard. along with the screeching of dying vampires. "In your faces, you flying leeches!" Victoria shouted. Her cries of victory ended short when she looked down. Part of the carriage was in fire. "Oh, bother." she said. She leaned down to try and put it out, but was soon flung off entirely! The carriage had begun to turn over, sending everyone spinning inside, and everyone outside to be thrown off. The carriage landed on its side, sending the horses lose. Victoria got up and moaned. She clutched her shoulder, certain that the dark blood was spreading. She lowered her cloak and saw that it now spread to her forearm! She snapped out of her trance when she heard Gabriel call her name. She pulled her cloak back up and her hood came back on her head. When she arrived at the scene, she turned to Gabriel, who had been staring at the carriage. "Alright, next time I'm driving." Victoria declared. "Well, the upside is that we're where the map would take us." Gabriel said. He turned to see the long line of flames that Victoria made with her plan. "And remind me never to give you anything explosive again." he said with a smile. "What's everyone's condition?" Victoria said to the others. Her response was a series of groans. "Great! Let's roll!" she said. With that everyone followed her towards their destination. "Well that's unusual." Carl said. In the middle of a clearing was a small manor. It looked like it had been abandoned for centuries. "Are you sure this is where the map told us to go?" Victoria asked. "Yes, I'm sure." Gabriel replied. There was a long pause of silence. Victoria felt her mind screaming at her, begging her to do something. To recognize this place. To remember something. "Gabriel, are you feeling what I'm feeling?" Victoria asked at length. "I'm not sure. What are you feeling?" "Like we've been here before..." (Read and review please! I need some inspiration!)
